Spirits Animal Sanctuary: Eldercare and Hospice for Dogs, Horses, and
Poultry featured Old Friends:
pastel paintings by
renowned artist Carole L. Olson. Carole has done wonderful
portraits of many of the KSAS residents. Carole donated a
percentage of the
event's
sales to the
sanctuary. This was Kindred sprits most successful art benefit
ever. Thank you Carole! Special thanks to our wonderful
volunteers. We could not hold such great events without your help.
About the Artist
Carole L. Olson showed talent at an early age, winning
her first art
competition at six. As an Air Force dependent, she was
exposed to many different locales and people. Carole enrolled as
a Fine Arts major at the University of New Mexico where she discovered
her passion for painting. She also produced a series of American
Indian portraits after visiting several Indian Pueblos with
photographer John Candelario. Carole moved to California
where she had an opportunity to work as a comedy writer. With her
writing partner, she created episodes for “The Jeffersons”,
“Susan Slept Here” and “What’s Happening Now?” Her studies
included extensive animation course work at the Animation Union
School. During this period, Carole also studied figure drawing in
California and Italy with noted artist Glenn Vilppu.
Carole worked as a paralegal in immigration
law, her “day” job, to support her continuing art development.
Realizing it was time to return to her true passion, painting, she sold
her home in California and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. She
studied at Andreeva Portrait Academy, Valdes Art Center and the Santa
Fe Community College with such notable artists as Tony Ryder, Linda
Kyser Smith, James Roybal, Jane Shoenfeld and Kevin Gorges.
Today, Carole is actively pursuing her dream. In addition to the
Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary event, her work can be found at Santa
Fe’s Back Street Bistro through August and at the Mark Zoeller Gallery
on Canyon Road from August 10-16th. E-mail:
